Planning Your Visit
Prosen Hostel can only be reached by road and is nine miles from the nearest town, Kirriemuir, 12 miles from Forfar and 26 miles from the city of Dundee. As there are no shops or eating and drinking establishments in Glen Prosen, it’s best to stop off for supplies on your way here.
Kirriemuir and Forfar both have an excellent choice of shops, including butcher shops, bakeries and boutiques, as well as cafés, restaurants and pubs. There are also several supermarkets – or place an online order with Tesco, who deliver right to the door of the hostel.
Angus is renowned for its fresh produce and high quality meat, game, vegetables, soft fruit and fresh seafood. Experience a taste of Angus by visiting Peel Farm, a farm shop with a very popular tearoom in nearby Glen Isla. Peel Farm specialises in local produce – and is the home of Gin Bothy!
Alternatively, Angus company FreshFood Express delivers hampers of delicious artisan Scottish produce all over the world (including Glen Prosen!).
Due to the high mountains surrounding our glen, there’s no mobile signal in Glen Prosen but free internet access and Wi-Fi are available at Prosen Hostel and there’s a traditional red phone box in Glen Prosen village.

Activities in the area
Walking is a very popular activity in Glen Prosen. There are lovely low-level walks and testing climbs throughout the glen, which also offers access to several of the other Angus Glens, various Munros, the Cairngorms Plateau and the Cateran Trail.
This is also a very good area for mountain biking, cycling, climbing, kayaking and many other outdoor activities. And in winter, we’re only a couple of glens away from Glenshee Ski Centre.
If you’re looking for a more relaxing activity, Glamis Castle is nearby. In Kirriemuir, Barrie’s Birthplace offers a fascinating look at the childhood of the creator of Peter Pan, while his gift to the town, a Victorian Camera Obscura, provides sweeping views of the surrounding hills and mountains.
There are also two excellent museums – The Gateway To The Glens and Tayside Police Museum.
